A boost for Ciba

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Friday 7th Jun 2002.

Bradford-based Ciba Speciality Chemicals has received a financial boost from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Ciba is set to get funding from the DTI's Partnership Fund, which was set up to provide support for firms which develop partnership between employers and employees, improve communications and solve cultural and business problems in the workplace.

Out of 272 applicants, 49 firms are set to receive a share of the largest funding pot of £1.75 million to date.

Ciba is one of just six in the region to get a share.

Since the Fund was launched in 1999, the government has paid out more than £5 million.

Alan Johnson, minister for employment relations, industry and the regions, said: "Good business practice makes good business sense and partnership at work is essential for companies who want to reach the top in today's competitive economy.

"Modern, successful companies understand that valuing people encourages productivity and innovation.

"Partnership between employees and employers helps UK business get to the future first.

"The Government's Partnership Fund has already helped many organisations develop a culture of co-operation and improve communication at work.

"Should a dispute still occur, partnership can be particularly important - honesty and openness can save both employees and employers the pressure of an employment tribunal."

Ciba is set to get a maximum of £50,000 from the Fund for establishing a partnership with the GMB for business solutions and implementation of strategies at work.

The partnership aims to involve all 1,274 staff to help the firm grow and expand.
